Mastodon rule, seen those fuckers live? One hell of a drummer!
Trust me, I was the singer in a touring metalcore band for years: Screaming is an unappreciated talent. It's far more difficult than you think. You might be able to do it for a single note. Try doing it for an hour at a crack, day after day. It's a talent in and of itself, just not one most people can appreciate.
What I'm listening to these days:
Lamb of God
Mastodon
Cattle Press
Poison the Well (Meg: You should check this out, it does have quite a bit of melody)
Integrity (of course)
Coalesce

Yeah, he was one of a string of drummers from Today is the Day, a criminally underappreciated noisecore band.

Ok, Ok, maybe I was too harsh on the screaming on cue/no talent bit.
Let's put it this way then...it seems to me that there is no talent there, not that there isn't, just not from my point of view - and for the most part, doesn't appeal to me as a 24/7 song style, but there might be talent there, just not so apparent on the offset!
Oh, I get you, man. Certain people appreciate the screaming, but most don't. I can't count the number of people who've told me "I love your band's music, but the singer sounds like he's drowning in his own blood." Bleh, whatever.

Kind of like when people don't appreciate that I took the time I did to test the application, and they are upset when I found things wrong with it.
That is my job, but they don't want me to be good at it.
Bad analogy, but I understand.
Long live the 80's
